Our Curriculum
Our aim is to fulfil the optimum learning
potential of the individual child through the requirements of the
National Curriculum; thus leading to their intellectual, aesthetic,
social, emotional and physical development. We achieve this by employing
various strategies for learning which include:
- a variety of effective teaching methods
- working with individuals / groups / whole class
- opportunities for discovery and problem solving
- use of school based resources
- numerous structured activities
- physical activities - drama, movement, P. E. swimming and games
- using the local environment / Community
- other visits in connection with specific curricular areas
- on going assessment of learning progress
By the end of Key Stage 1, the performance of the majority of children
will be within the range of levels 1 to 3 (average achievement for
a 7 year old is 2b), by the end of Key Stage 2 it will be within the
range of levels 2 to 5 (average achievement for an 11 year old is
level 4).
All schools are required to set specific curriculum targets for the
end of Key Stage 2 (Year 6 pupils). This is part of a whole school
improvement initiative which supports a national programme to raise
standards. Targets for English, Mathematics and Science are published
in the Governor's Annual Report to Parents each year, and a summary
of achievements available to all parents.
The particular aims and objectives for each curricular area are outlined
